Just Start! The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins With One Step

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe

Today I just want to talk to anyone out there who has been putting off an idea or a project simply because when they think about pursuing it, just the thought of it is so overwhelming that you never start.

I think we all know that famous quote that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I think that’s one of the problems, that in our society we are always too forward-looking. Society always nurtures us to always look ahead to the future.

When we think about our goal or dream that we want to accomplish it’s always somewhere far off in the future.  We start thinking about all the thousand steps to get to our destination and it just overwhelms us. Intellectually we don’t know how we can bridge that gap from here to there.

Understandably that can be very overwhelming and we know it to such a degree that we never even take any action on the things or ideas that we know would bring us joy, would bring us fulfillment.

I just want you to not focus on the end, don’t focus on the finish line, and just learn to bring your awareness to the here and now. Focus your awareness on what you can do today no matter how big or small. Take that first step to lead you in that direction. Every morning when I wake up just think about what can I do today that can put me on the right track to my dreams.

Really think about all the things that you really want to pursue that you know deep down would bring you deep fulfillment and would be an expression of your deepest desires.

Pursue what sense as your purpose in this life because you know we’re all here to express our own individuality. Don’t wait any longer, just start and you’ll start creating the way, and things will start opening up for you.

Learn to just be more in the moment and really make that commitment to be open to life and to all the possibilities it provides.  All these little steps add up over time and you will surprise yourself with how far you’ve come.
